Richard Bloom Poffenberger , 85 Oct 17, 1935 - Jul 26, 2021 Richard Bloom Poffenberger, 85, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Monday, July 26, 2021, at Ravenwood Assisted Living. Born Thursday, October 17, 1935 in Sharpsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Harvey Cecil Poffenberger Sr. and the late Margaret Louise (Bloom) Poffenberger. He graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1953. He was employed with Warren Electric for 40 years. Richard was a life long member of St. James Brethren Church. He served in the National Guard for 23 years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Waynesboro, VFW, Waynesboro, Elks Lodge 378, the American Legion Mercersburg Post 517, Hagerstown Masons 217 and the Maugansville Ruritan. He was a member for 17 years at the Fountain Head Country Club and the Hagerstown and Cumberland Shrine Club. He is survived by his in laws Richard and Janet Biller of Sterling, VA, Mary Harper of Bolivar, WV and Delores Harper of Hadley, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Myra Loy (Harper) Poffenberger and brother, Harvey Cecil Poffenberger, Jr. Services will be held Monday, August 2, 2021, at 11:00 am, at the St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, Fairplay, MD, with the Rev. Don White officiating. Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, Sunday, August 1, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after 1:00 pm. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery, Sharspburg, MD.
