Richard K. Maue, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Palm City, Florida with his wife and family by his side. He and his wife of 57 years, Carolyn, have lived in Palm City since 1995, coming from Northport, Long Island.
Richard was born on February 17, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York to Eugene, an engineer, and Christina Maue. His brother, Eugene, predeceased him. Richard attended Valparaiso University and New York Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in Engineering.
Richard served his country in the Army from 1964-1970. He went on to a long and very successful career as a mechanical and aerospace engineer and program manager at Grumman, where, among other accomplishments, he was proud to have been a team member on the development of the Lunar Module (LEM), as well as the legendary Grumman F-14 Tomcat fighter jet.
Richard loved sports. He played soccer growing up, including playing for his high school soccer team and later coached all three children in the Northport-Cow Harbor Soccer club on Long Island. He also served as a board member for the club, and for a number of years was club Registrar. Richard loved to golf with his friends and family, especially after he moved to Florida, when he became a member of the Monarch Country Club, and where he and Carolyn were also involved in various social activities. He avidly followed professional golf and enjoyed watching the game on a restful Sunday afternoon. A lifelong New York sports fan - Richard's allegiances were to the Giants, the Yankees, and the Rangers, a passion he passed on to his children, telling them every minute of every game counted because, even when the team was losing, you never knew when you might be watching the best comeback in sports history.
Richard and Carolyn took their children on many trips while the kids were growing up, ranging from skiing, fishing, camping, and of course, soccer tournaments. His interest in travel grew after retirement, frequently visiting family in New York and Connecticut, and he relished arranging and taking trips with Carolyn to explore the world. He also enjoyed cooking and pairing a meal with a fine wine.
A man known for his devotion to his family and many friends, he is survived by the love of his life, best friend, and wife Carolyn; his three adoring children: Lisa (Webb), Richard, and Allison and their spouses, Tommy Webb, Mary Maue, and Patrick Cocks, respectively; his six grandchildren: Frederick, Rachel, William, Sean, Colum and Annie; and great-grandchild, Joan Pepper. We miss you dearly, Dad.
A funeral mass will take place on February 17, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Palm City, where he was a long-time parishioner. Richard's family requests any donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
