Richard Marcus Telfian (Rick), aged 91, passed away on November 8, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia. Born on January 27, 1933, in Albany, New York, Rick dedicated much of his life to education and service, both as a beloved teacher with South Colonie Schools and as a painting contractor.
Rick served honorably in the Army from 1953 to 1954, an experience that shaped much of his early adult years. He was also a graduate of Russell Sage College, which furthered his passion for teaching.
Known for his wit and love for sports, Rick was an avid sports fan, a hobby that brought him much joy and excitement. He shared this passion with everyone around him, making the many trips to Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden cherished family events. He also had a special love for the winters in Sarasota, Florida, and looked forward to the racing season in Saratoga Springs, every August.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Marcus Richard Telfian, and mother, Ruth Rock Telfian. He is survived by his four sons, Charles Gregory Telfian (Barbara), William Bradley Telfian (Robin), John Richard Telfian (Chrystal), and Mark Lawrence Telfian as well as seven grandchildren, Trevor Robert Telfian, Sarah Marie Telfian, Oregon Robert Telfian, Louden South Telfian, Anna Spalding Telfian, Lauren Spencer Telfian and Richard Palmer Telfian.
Rick's legacy will be remembered through his contributions to education, his service to his country, and his role as a loving father and grandfather. His humor and enthusiasm for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
