Richard George Lux, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 14, at his home in Northbrook, IL. He greeted every day and every person he met with kindness, warmth, an open heart and a wide smile. His collegial humor turned strangers into sidekicks, and his generosity in thought and action inspired all who knew him. Born in Akron, OH, on Jan. 6, 1936, he grew up in that city, graduated from St. Mary's High School with the class of 1954 and went to work for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. He was preceded in death by parents Jerome and Anna (Koerber) Lux, sister and brother-in-law Winnie and Ed Shira, brother-in-law Ray Klein, and grandson James Lux. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Velma Lux of Northbrook, IL, he is survived by son, Thomas (Maureen) of Glenview, IL; daughters, Mary Beth (Philip) Pacsi of Hendersonville, TN and Julie (Dan) Rosenbaum of Arlington, VA; grandsons Adam Pacsi (Mollie Baxley) of Oakland, CA and Dominic Rosenbaum of Arlington, VA; granddaughters Jennifer Lux of Wayland, MA, Kathryn (Joshua) Rudawitz of Acton, MA, Dominica (Sean) Vanderhoof of Erie, PA, and Ellen (Raziel) Shields of Angier, NC; great granddaughters Juliette Lux, Eleanor Rudawitz, and Noreen Shields and great grandsons Calvin and Oliver Lux, Samuel and Jack Rudawitz, and Philip Vanderhoof. Once it is safe to travel and gather, family and friends will join for a Funeral Mass and burial in the Chicago area. To honor Dick until then, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Red Cross, the Covenant Living of Northbrook Benevolent Care Fund (2625 Techny Road, Northbrook, IL 60062) or The Center for Family Resources, 400 Franklin Gateway SE, Suite 250, Marietta, GA 30067.
