Richard "Dick" L. Dragoo, 88 of Rushville passed away on December 28, 2021 in Rushville. He was born on June 10, 1933 in Muncie, IN to the late Marion G. Dragoo and Nettie O. (Carnes) Dragoo. Dick was a 1951 graduate of Royerton High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Ball State in 1955 and his Masters in 1959. Dick served his country in the United States Navy from 1955-1957. He married Martha Jane (Myers) Dragoo on August 22, 1959 and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2014. Since 1973, Dick and his family enjoyed 49 summers on Paradise Lake in Carp Lake, MI where they owned and operated Tall Pine Resort.
Dick taught business, health and physical education in Rushville Schools for over 35 years. He was a basketball coach at Rushville High School from 1958-1967. Dick also coached golf from 1967-1974. He was a member of Main Street Christian Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, deacon and elder. He was actively involved in the community by serving on the Rushville City Council. Dick was a member of Breakfast Optimist Club and Rushville Elks Lodge. In 1997, he was named a Sagamore of the Wabash, which is the highest honor given for distinguished service to the State of Indiana.
Dick is survived by his son, David (Lindsey) Dragoo of Fishers, IN and daughters, Nancy (Rob) Hamilton of New Castle, IN and Julia Dragoo of Rushville. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Laura, Kate, and Abby Hamilton; Ella Dragoo; Will Hogsett and Sam Smith.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Marion G. Dragoo and Nettie O. (Carnes) Dragoo, wife, Martha Jane (Myers) Dragoo, brother, Robert E. Dragoo, his paternal grandparents Frank and Mary Effie (Mock) Dragoo and his maternal grandparents John & Alice (Brown) Carnes.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Moster Mortuary with Pastor John Wall presiding. Friends and family are welcome to visit from 11 AM until the time of service. Private burial will be held at a later date for the family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Rush County Community Foundation (Dick and Jane Dragoo Memorial Scholarship Fund) or the donor's choice.
