Our beloved Richard Sandoval Gonzalez, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother went to be with our Lord on June 24, 2021. Richard was born on February 3, 1930 in Upland, CA; later moving to Fillmore, CA. He lived a long, rich life that was filled with a loving family and numerous friends. In Richard's youth he listened to the radio, since there were no TV's. Enjoyed Lone Ranger, comedy, Marc's Brothers, Jack Benny, Groucho Marc's, big band music, Frank Sinatra, Rancheras, Country and American music. Also, played with marbles, kick-the-can, made sling-shots, swam at Pole Creek with his friends, played baseball, violin and was in the wrestling team.
Richard had a dream to become a lawyer, but had to put his future on hold. At a young age of 14, his father passed away and became the man of the house. Richard felt it was his obligation to assist his mother and run the family business, (La Mexicana Market). He dedicated his life as a meat cutter to help raise his siblings. Later was employed at the Oxnard Airforce Base, Pt. Mugu and Pt. Hueneme Naval Base; total years as a meat cutter 60!
Richard met the love of his life Graciela Chretin in 1949 and later married in 1952; they began their family. He had a passion for travel, enjoyed beach outings, BBQ;s, music, dancing, art and different food cuisines. Richad had much knowledge and was a true historian and could quote the Bible to those privileged of his encounter. He was a man of integrity, honorable, loyal, very loving, had tenacity, and was a devout Catholic. Richard was honored to be a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 35 years and took pride in assisting the St. Vincent de Paul pantry for the needy for many years.
Richard and his beautiful wife, Graciela, were a match made in heaven. They were the true example of unconditional love. July 20, 2021 would have been their 69th. anniversary!
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Graciela, his son, Richard Jr. (wife: Mercedes), Christine (husband: Richard (Dicky) , Theresa (Terri) (husband: Kenny), grandchildren, Joseph, Timothy, Kimberly (husband: Mauricio), Eric (wife: Kaity), great-grandchildren, Major, Indigo, Arrow, Jade and another one on the way, brother: Carlos Gonzalez.
Richard was preceded by his parents: Jose and Maria de Jesus Gonzalez, brothers: Jose (Pepe) and Fernando (Popeye) and sister, Raquel.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 with a Recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM at Garcia Mortuary, 629 S. "A" Street, Oxnard, CA 93030. A Funeral Mass for Richard will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 7th, 2021 at St, Anthony Church, 2511 S. "C" Street, Oxnard, CA 93033. A Memorial Service will follow at a later time.
