Burlington Flats, NY: Richard "Dick" J. Cormier, 92, of State Hwy 51, passed away at home on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
The son of Edgar and Laudia (Richard) Cormier, he was born on April 13, 1928. He grew up in Gardner, MA. He married the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Claire Paul, on May 12, 1951. Over the course of their years together, they lived in many places on the East Coast, including Wayland MA, Southbridge MA, Syracuse NY, Naples FL and Orwell VT. They traveled throughout the US and abroad.
He leaves his children, Suzanne Willant and her husband James, Diane Freeman and her husband John, Paul Cormier, Robert Cormier and his wife Patricia and Thomas Cormier and his partner Arielle Berberick; grandchildren, Michael McKenna and his wife Leah, Matthew McKenna and his wife Jill, Christine Caza, Keith Scher and his wife Josie Maldonado, Michelle Keefe and her husband Fran, John Freeman II and his wife Lauren, Brian Chase and his wife Kelly, Andrew Cormier, Jennifer Pierre and her husband Gary, Danielle Cormier, Kimberly Lasinski and her husband Christopher, Robert Cormier and his fianc?e Catherine DelGobbo, Michael Cormier and his wife Renee, Kathleen Moulds and her husband Joel, Hillary Pratt, David Cormier, Joshua Cormier, Jacob Cormier, and Annabella Haga; his great grandchildren, Hailey, Alyssa and William McKenna, Rosalyn, Kaylin and Marilynn Caza, Olivia, Isaiah, Julianna and Noah Scher, Jack and Rachel Freeman, Jamie and Ethan Keisiner, Linkin and Lily Keefe, Madeline, Riley and Avery Chase, Grayson Pierre, Francesca, Matthew and Christian Lasinski, Emmalyn and Aislin Cormier, Ila Therese and James Moulds and Zoey Pratt; his two sisters, Therese Violette and Anne Marie Roberts; cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his wife, Claire Cormier; his brother, Roland Cormier; sisters, Lorraine Healy, Doris Prinn and Madeleine Melanson; daughter-in-law, Shirley Cormier and two grandsons, Christopher Cormier and James McKenna.
Dick served in the US Army, attended Becker Junior College for Accounting, and later attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute for Business. He had a successful career in finance working for several companies including Thayer Furniture Company, Cool Ray in Chelsea, MA, American Optical in Southbridge, MA and eventually retiring from Bristol Labs in Syracuse, NY as Vice President of Finance.
Dick was a devout Catholic attending Mass daily for most of his life. He served his local parishes and communities as a sacristan, acolyte, lector, Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education instructor. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and after retirement was involved in starting Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in multiple parishes throughout New England.
Dick was a sports lover and played football, baseball, golf and tennis as well as water skiing and snow skiing in his younger days. He loved watching sports on TV and playing cards, especially Bridge. He always had a song in his heart and his singing and his smile could light up any room and warm any heart.
Richard's funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 19th , from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 12:00 PM in Notre Dame Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 446 Main St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in New Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge. A calling hour in the funeral home will be held on Friday, Feb. 19th, from 10:30-11:30 am, prior to the Mass.
