Richard L. Carpenter, 81, Elkhart, formerly of Mishawaka, died 12:30 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2022, at Hubbard Hill Estates. He was born February 9, 1941, in Elkhart, to DeWayne L. & Letha Arlene (Christophel) Carpenter Sr. On April 3, 1965, he married Janet (Welty) Carpenter, and she died December 19, 2014.
Surviving are 3 sons, Eric (Mandy) Carpenter, Savannah, Tennessee, Ted (Joy) Carpenter, Carmel, James Carpenter, Goshen, grandchildren, Andrew, Landon, Lauren, Jayden, Mitchell, Noelle, Sarah, siblings, Jerry (Pat) Carpenter, Goshen, Janice (Orv) Miller, Wolcottville and a sister-in-law, Ruby Carpenter, Goshen.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, Janet and a brother, DeWayne Carpenter Jr.
Richard was an Environmental Engineer for Uniroyal, Mishawaka and Allied Signal, South Bend. He was a member of the Wakarusa Missionary Church and Gideon's International. Richard served as an Assistant Chaplain for the Elkhart County Jail Ministry. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
Visitation will be 3-5 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Friday, September 2, 2022, at Wakarusa Missionary Church, 202 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Pastor Chris Knight and Rev. Eric Carpenter will officiate. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery.
