Richard R. Burleigh "Dick", 80, passed away suddenly May 8, 2022 at the Exeter Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born July 8, 1941 in Fremont, NH, son of the late Jesse and Mabel (Holmes) Burleigh.
Dick came from a large family and they were raised in Fremont, NH. Dick met and fell in love with Nancy Rae Walker and they were wed on December 29, 1963 at the Fremont Town Hall. At that time Dick was already enlisted into the United States Army and got stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Nancy went and lived there with Dick as well. They shared twin daughters, Laurie Jane Burleigh and Vickie Burleigh. Dick served his country honorably and was discharged on October 31, 1969 at the rank of SP4. Dick and Nancy were longtime resident of Brentwood, NH. Professionally, Dick had longtime employment with the Poole family as a boiler and furnace technician. In his younger years, Dick enjoyed playing baseball, softball, camping and dancing. Throughout life, he enjoyed listening to country music. Dick was a proud American and appreciated all veterans and he enjoyed attending the Fremont Memorial Day Parade and was Grand Marshall honored there several years ago.
He was predeceased by both his wife, Nancy and his daughter, Laurie Jane in 2005 and his siblings, Phyllis, William, Robert, Barbara, Shirley, Betty, Florence, Albert, Patricia, Sharon, Barbara and Dorothy.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Vickie McComb, granddaughter, Shyla Rae Lee McComb Hastings, great-grandchildren, Oliver and Ellie Hastings, a sister, Sally Richard and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the People's United Methodist Church, 408 Main St., Fremont, NH with military honors being rendered.
