Richard "Rick" Andrews Gray, Jr. of Dallas, Texas passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on March 29, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, to Lieutenant Colonel Richard A. Gray, Sr., and Ola "Carolyn" Arnette. Growing up in an Air Force family, Rick and his brothers, Don and Jimmy, spent much of their childhood in Japan and other various bases; but Rick always called their final stop in Big Spring, Texas home.
Rick graduated from New Mexico Military Institute, and then went to Texas Tech University, where he was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in International Trade. After Tech, he married his college sweetheart, Linda Vidrine Gray-Ugor, with whom he shared two children. He later married Brenda Richards Gray; and while their marriage ended, they remained close until his passing.
Rick built an illustrious career in real estate development, investment, and venture capitalism. He began his journey at Hudson & Hudson Realtors and became the first member outside of their family to become partner. In 1985, Rick founded Gray & Co. Realtors Inc., where he and his partners brokered over $1 billion in transactions globally.
Rick was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and graciously received a kidney from his brother, Don in 1982. Rick was one of the oldest living kidney transplant recipients in the world, and his brother said, "Rick showed that kidney a lot more excitement than I ever would have."
Beyond his professional achievements, Rick was a longtime member of The International Brotherhood of Rattlers in Dallas and Brook Hollow Golf Club.
He is survived by his children, Kyle Carlin Gray and her significant other, Liam Dunn, and Richard Andrews "Drew" Gray, III, along with his spouse, Jennifer Gray; his grandchildren, Isabel Eleazar Blanco and Vivian Olivia Gray; his brothers and their wives, Don and Pam Gray and Jimmy and Kelley Gray; and his nephews and their families, Jason and Alyson Gray, Jeremy and Ashley Gray, and James Gray, Jr.
Rick was passionate about his family and friends and enjoyed making the rounds in Highland Park nightly to spend time with the people he loved. Whether it was his daily stop at Caf? Pacific for a glass of Pinot Noir with Mike, J.C., Bill, Bervin, and others; or sharing pork buns with his son and daughter-in-law at Shinsei every Monday, he lived every day to the fullest. He loved traveling the world, playing golf at Brook Hollow, and watching his 10-year-old granddaughter, Vivian, come into her own. Rick never knew a stranger - especially the pretty ladies - and made everyone feel special and loved. He was one of the most generous people you would ever meet, and he will be missed and more importantly remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Rick was always the life of the party, so in true "Ricky Bobby" fashion, we invite you to one final bash in his honor on what would have been his 77th birthday.
Funeral services will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, March 29th, 2025, at 2:00pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Brook Hollow Golf Club at 4:00 pm.
