Reverend Waid C. Wilkes passed on Thursday October 28, 2021 in Southaven, MS at the age of 83 surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his wife Beverly of 64 years. Waid and Beverly had four children, the late Dr. Waid Timothy Wilkes, Sr. (Lynn) of Hernando, MS, Susie Brown (Mickey) of Southaven, MS, Beth Mayberry (Terry) of Olive Branch, MS and Jeffrey Wilkes, Sr. of North Port Florida. He also leaves behind one brother and four sisters, Donald Wilkes (Nancy) of Nashville, TN, Aletta Wilkes of Plymouth, MI, Betty Wilkes of Marianna, AR., Sandra Childress of Wynne AR, Donna Gardner (Michael) of Wynne, AR and sister-in-law Judy Wilkes of Marianna, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents Waid Carviner and Doris Wilkes, birth mother Ruth Wilkes, his son Dr. Waid Timothy Wilkes, Sr, his great grand son Ethan Bayless, his two brothers Billy Wilkes and Rickey Wilkes.
Waid received his bachelor's degree from Thomas A. Edison State College and his Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary. Waid was a retired Methodist Minister, as well as a retired Lieutenant for the Memphis City Fire Department. In addition, he served two years in the United States Army.
He loved listening to the love of his life sing and was extremely proud of the life they built together. Funeral Services will be held at Maples Memorial United Methodist in Olive Branch, MS on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 12:30. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
Waid's favorite charity was St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
