Rev. Kenneth David Ray, age 53, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at a local hospital.
Rev. Ray was born in Floyd County, GA, on July 18, 1969, son of Mrs. Judy Ely Ray and the late George "Lynn" Ray. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lee Ray, his maternal grandparents, Nathelene Potts Ely and J.T. Ely, his paternal grandparents, Nita Williams Ray and Curtis Ray, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Rev. Ray was graduated from Georgia Northwestern Technical College with a degree in welding & pipefitting. He was a steamfitter and pipefitter with the Atlanta Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #72. Rev. Ray was a member of Doyle Road Baptist Church where he was a member of Brotherhood, former youth director, a member of the Doyle Road Baptist choir and was affectionately known as "Rev. Preacher David Ray." He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, drawing, and loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Survivors include his mother, Judy Ely Ray, Rome; wife, Latisha Baker Ray, Adairsville; 3 daughters, Courtney Earwood (Dalton), Rome, Katie Ray (Perry Hunt), Rome, and Jessica Wingo, Lindale; 2 stepsons, Dale Baker and Zach Baker; 6 grandchildren, Braydon Wingo, Kenzlee Earwood, Kace Beauseigneur, Bear Hunt, Maddie Baker and Stella Rose; and his ex-wife and the mother of his daughters, Martha Rampley Ray.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Eden Valley Baptist Church, 438 Eden Valley Rd., Rome, GA, 30161, with the Rev. Earl Vaughn and the Rev. Kirby Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4pm until 6pm on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
Pallbearers are to assemble by 1:30pm on Monday at Eden Valley Baptist Church and include; active. John Barlett III, Dwayne Davis, Braydon Wingo, Dalton Earwood, Jackie Payne, Dale Baker, Zach Baker and Nico Reed; honorary, Michael Graham, Chad Wood, Scott Mathis, Perry Hunt, Leslie Culberson, Justin Culberson.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of funeral arrangements.
