Retired U.S. Air Force Major Eleanor Weatherford, 87, entered into rest on Saturday, June 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olin Farris and Mary Goodrich Weatherford, her sister Jeannine Bonds, and her brother Farris Weatherford.
The family will greet friends on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC 29829. A Celebration of Life service will be in the funeral home chapel at 2 o'clock on Saturday, June 29, 2024, with Pastor Gene Brown officiating. Interment with full military honors rendered by the United States Air Force will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
Left to cherish Eleanor's memory are her brother, Camille Weatherford (C.H.), and nieces, Rebecca "Becky" Jarman (Lawrence), Liz Bonds Usher, Michelle Hutto (Philip Elrod), Donna Brown (Tim), Lisa Vascavage (Jim), and a nephew, Dylan Hutto.
Major Weatherford was born in Bath, SC. She graduated from L.B.C. High School in 1954. Upon completing the Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1961, she chose the United States Air Force Nurses Corp Tour of Duty, including Roswell New Mexico Brook School of Aero Space Medicine, where she received her Flight Nurse Wings?followed by tours in Wiesbaden Hospital, Germany, Warner Robbins A.F.B. Hospital, and Cam Rhan Bay, Vietnam. After her tour in Vietnam, Eleanor received her master's in nursing from the University of Arizona, followed by tours at Shepard A.F.B. Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas, Incirlik A.F. Hospital, Turkey, as the chief nurse of receiving, at Zweibrucken A.F. Clinic, Germany - best of the United States Air Force in Europe and final assignment at Chandler A.F.B. Hospital, NJ. She retired from Williams Hospital in 1984. After retirement, she worked with Community Long-Term Care, a state program for Medicare and Medicaid Assistance.
Eleanor was a member of the Society of Retired A.F. Nurses - SRAFN, University of Arizona Alumni Association, American Legion Post, Bath, SC, WIMSA-Women in Military Service, Vietnam Veterans of America-1969-1970, and an associate member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Graniteville, SC.
