Rene Guess
Help us celebrate Rene! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Rene.
With heavy hearts, we share that Rene Guess was taken from this world too soon due to complications related to a rare cancer at age 54 in Fort Worth, Texas. She passed peacefully in the company of Ben, her husband of 16 years, Maxwell and Josselyn, her precious children, and her pesky dog, Lilly. Rene was witty, lively and kind. She was blessed with many extraordinary friends who say she was the "life of the party," never shying away from making someone smile or laugh. Rene relished life and brought people together for impromptu get-togethers, parties and vacations, always going overboard with her theory that you could never have enough. Rene was passionate about rescuing dogs, women's rights, politics and brunches with the "finest bottle of cheap champagne!" She enjoyed cruises with her family, blackjack and chilling out at country music concerts. Family was Rene's foremost priority. She loved Ben with all her heart. Maxwell's open-mindedness, eagerness to learn, enthusiasm for roller coasters and loyalty to the Cincinnati Bengals delighted his mom. Josselyn's athletic abilities in softball, football and basketball, as well as her artistic paintings, her selflessness and her sense of humor enchanted Rene. Please love and support Josselyn, Maxwell and Ben so Rene's beautiful smile, bright eyes, zest for life and legacy can continue to shine through them. Rene graduated from Quaker Valley High School (1986), Pennsylvania State University (1990) and the University of Dayton School of Law (JD 1993). Professionally, Rene began as a trademark examining attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She spent many hours comprehending the nuts and bolts of trademark law during her time at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan (remember the ball bearings) and then a stint at Thompson Hine law firm. She later transitioned into her legal passion: counseling marketing and advertising clients in the consumer products industry. She worked at Procter & Gamble from 2007 until joining Alcon in 2015, advancing to director & senior counsel, for U.S. and Global Vision Care. She was privileged and honored to work with exceptional and supportive colleagues throughout her career. In addition to her husband, Ben and children, Maxwell and Josselyn, Rene will be missed by her mother, Diane LaForte (Jim Bennett); in-laws, Margaret and Roy Guess, Joey LaForte (Tina, Carissa, Gianna), Donna Courtney (Frank, Marguerite, Francesca, Josephine), Chuck LaForte (Ivy, AJ), Christine LaForte-Huber (Tim, Sam, Anna, Gus), Bryan LaForte (Christie Stewart), Diana Guess (Sid Bye, Sarah Skahan); lifelong friends, Andrea Stillmak, Kristin Bordeau and Stefanie Karp; and too many aunts, uncles, cousins and other friends to include. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph LaForte. Rene passed on Valentine's Day, a holiday honoring love, which is fitting for an individual who valued and cared for others. In Rene's memory, please make someone else feel special by "paying it forward" as Rene did with her thoughtfulness and generosity. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in her memory may be made to Saving Hope Animal Rescue, 6708 S. Hulen St., Fort Worth, TX 76133. (www.savinghoperescue.org (http://www.savinghoperescue.org)). In the way Rene lived, she wants to be remembered at a celebration of life at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Ridglea Country Club (3700 Bernie Anderson Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76116). Everyone who knew and loved Rene is invited. .
