Rene "NeNe" Cabrera was embraced by the loving arms of our Lord on January 24, 2021 at the age of 50 years old. Rene was born in Brownsville, Texas, on June 5, 1970 to Rafaela Patricia Cabrera and Rogelio Cabrera, Sr.
As a dedicated husband and father, Rene committed his life to providing for his family. As a loyal employee, Rene worked at Calpine for more than 18 years, gaining more than several friendships during his time there. More significantly, he was an absolute wonderful husband, father, brother, co-worker, and the best friend one could hope to know. Rene was a very proud Texas A&M Aggie. Rene was also very passionate of the Fightin' Texas Aggies, the San Antonio Spurs and The Dallas Cowboys and while Rene enjoyed all sports, nothing pleased him more than watching his own sons compete in basketball, football, & golf. He enjoyed an occasional round of golf and grilling in his backyard and was always accompanied by his English Bulldog, Miller. He will always be remembered by those closest to him from the eclectic songs he loved to sing along with to his delight in sharing his Miller Lite with friends. Rene was the epitome of someone who simply loved life and loved all those around him. He was everyone's friend, and one could rarely be around him without a big, contagious smile and a joyful laugh. He was a devoted Catholic and he demonstrated his faith through his actions to others and especially his love of his family. He certainly brightened this world.
Rene is preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Rafaela Patricia Cabrera. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Sally Cabrera; his amazing sons, Rene Cabrera II and Ryan Cabrera; his father, Rogelio Cabrera, Sr.; his brother Rogelio Cabrera Jr. (wife Rosie); his sisters Patricia Trevi?o (husband Isaac) and Yvonne Cabrera; mother-in-law & father-in law, Lillie & George Gutierrez; sister-in-law, Phyllis Long (husband Leonard); and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Rene will be remembered & dearly missed by all, especially by his family & his lifelong college brothers from his time at Aggieland.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, February 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
