Reinhold died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND.
Reinhold "Reinie" Dockter was born September 26, 1925 at Venturia, ND on the family homestead to Fred J. and Martha (Pfahl) Dockter. Early on, he learned the ways and lore of farming near Venturia, North Dakota. He really enjoyed the challenge and unpredictability of prairie-land farming; through persistence and planning, he was able to help his childhood as well as his adult family thrive.
On June 19, 1947, he married Lorraine Weisser at Ashley Baptist Church. They subsequently farmed several locations around McIntosh County, eventually settling near Ashley in 1960 where they lived and worked for over 40 years. Reinie kept very busy on the family farm, but also served on church committees and councils at Salem Reformed Church, McIntosh County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) board, and as director of Ashley Rural Fire Department.
After retiring from farming in 2000, Reinie and Lorraine moved into Ashley where they enjoyed the supportive and close-knit fellowship of a small town. Reinie continued his interest in farming by keeping up with programs and developments, enjoying discussions on new methods, new seeds, and new equipment. He never ceased to be amazed at the new technologies that improved crop yields and reduced work hours.
Reinie is survived by his wife Lorraine and their children, Daryl (Deb) Dockter of Sioux Falls, SD and Janet (Gerry) VanKooten of Sterling, AK; five grandchildren, Karoline (Carl) Bootsma, Nathan (Sarah) Dockter, Daryn (Candace) Dockter, Crystal (Ben Coon) VanKooten and Kara VanKooten; 11 great-grandchildren, Carson Bootsma, Karrie Bootsma, Christian Bootsma, Emily Dockter, Jonathan Dockter, Brielle Dockter, Lydia Dockter, Solomon Dockter, Ezra Dockter, Sabrina VanKooten-Coon and Paul VanKooten-Coon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Katherine (Martell) Dockter and five sisters, Viola (Reinhold) Diede, Wholla Dockter, Frieda (Ervin) Wiedenmayer, Lorraine (Marvin) Spitzer and Ruth (Otto) Nehlich.
Reinie enjoyed good company, good stories, and a good pinochle game. His was a life well-lived with an abiding faith in God.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with the arrangements.
