Having lived most of her life in her beloved Transylvania County, she also lived briefly in Winston-Salem, NC, Detroit, MI., and Hendersonville, NC with her husband John prior to returning home to Transylvania in the early 1960s to raise her family.
Becky, as she was known to all, was a 1958 graduate of Brevard Senior High School. She was the Salutatorian for her graduating class. She was a graduate of Blanton’s Business College in Asheville, NC as well as a graduate of Blue Ridge Community College. A voracious reader and fiercely independent, she loved learning new things and reading stories. She was very fond of the classic movies of Hollywood, World War II history, and the history of the Royal family of Great Britain. She was a huge fan of college football and loved to watch games on TV. For many years, Becky worked with several community organizations over the years and helped organize annual class reunions for Brevard High classes of the 1950s. She was very proud of her alma mater and classmates. She was employed as a secretary/Administrative Assistant for DuPont Corporation, and before retiring under the subsequent owners of the plant, Sterling Diagnostics and Agfa. In later years, after obtaining her degree in Early Childhood Education from BRCC, Becky enjoyed teaching and working with young children at the First Methodist Pre-School and at Brevard Elementary in Transylvania County Schools.
Becky enjoyed making new friends throughout her life and loved to support and dine at local restaurants, especially Rocky’s in downtown Brevard.
Survivors include her sister, Pamela Wickliffe, husband Bob, of Cedar Mountain, NC, a son, Jeff McDaris, wife Lisa, of Pisgah Forest, NC, and a daughter, Cheryl Rose, husband Bill, of Hawaii. Becky took particular pride and interest in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Grandson John McDaris, wife Charity, of Etowah, NC, great-granddaughters, Madelyn, Ava, and Emerlyn McDaris; grandson William McDaris, wife Becca, of Marshall, NC, granddaughter Kelly Rich, of Hawaii, and grandson Michael Rich, of Hawaii, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
