On Wednesday, August 4th, 2021, Rebecca (Becky) E. Franco was called to eternal rest with her heavenly Father. She was welcomed by those who preceded her - Husband, Robert Franco Sr., Mother and Father, Irene R. Escobedo and Geronimo M. Escobedo, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Rebecca was born on October 27, 1932, in Mercedes, TX. Growing up in a Christian home, Becky grew in her faith as a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Harlingen TX where she got to know her husband, Robert Franco, of over 40 years. Before moving the family to Austin in 1977, Becky worked at Weldon's Jewelers, Valley Baptist Hospital, the Credit Bureau, and First National Bank of Harlingen. After the move to Austin, she continued her banking career with Bank of America and its predecessors until her retirement in 1998.
Becky was a friend to everyone with an uncanny ability to make people feel welcome. She was an active member of Bannockburn Baptist Church in Austin, where she served in her Sunday School class and in the community. This included helping with the church's food pantry and with the ESL program that Bannockburn hosted. Her favorite way to serve was through singing and enjoyed performing in "The Singing Christmas Tree" at Bannockburn. Later in life, Becky was very proud of being a member of the Singing Women of Texas, performing in churches around the state and the White House in Washington, D.C.
Becky proudly spoke of her family. She is survived by her children, Robert Jr (Gloria), Richard (Ruby), Roger (Elizabeth) and Roxanne Escobedo (Salvador), 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary E.Cedillo, Irene E. Villarreal, and her friend and companion for 17 years, David Laurel, along with many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Tia Becky.
A Celebration of Becky's life will be held Thursday, August 26th at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 620 S C St, Harlingen, TX 78550. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following.
