Dr. Raymond Louis Yockey of Greeley CO passed away on May 17th, 2020. Ray was born November 20th, 1931 in Coles County IL to Mary and Cecil Yockey. He graduated from Bement High School in 1950 and went on to the University of IL receiving a BS degree in 1954 and his medical degree in 1957. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Ray served as U.S Army Medical Officer from 1959 to 1961 stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.
Ray met his wife Alice Johnson at Cook County Hospital while in his internship and residency in internal medicine. They married in 1961 and relocated from Chicago to Colorado to start a career in medicine. Ray completed a Pulmonary Disease Fellowship at the Colorado General Hospital in Denver, CO in 1964. Ray started private practice and then joined The Internal Medicine Associates, in Greeley, CO. Ray was a member of the American Medical Association.
Ray was raised on a farm and loved nature and his garden. He completed the Master Gardner program through CSU. Ray served on the board of the Platte and Prairie Audubon Society and was a Poudre Wilderness volunteer. He organized monthly Weld County medical forums and wrote a medical advice column for the Greeley Tribune. Ray enjoyed hiking, camping with his family.
After retiring from private practice, Ray served as the medical director of Kenton Manor, Heartland Hospice, North Colorado Hospice and Palliative Care and volunteered in archives at NCMC.
He is survived by his wife Alice and children Charles, Douglas, Brook (Mylynda), Molly and Erin, grandchildren Morgan, Zachary and Tanner. Ray is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Dwight, James and nephew William Yockey.
There will be a family celebration of life at the Pawnee National Grassland. He was a member of the Unitarian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy at Nature.org or Pathways Hospice at Pathways-care.org or a charity of your choice.
