Raymond Poyar, 68, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2022 after a courageous seven year battle with cancer.He graduated from Saint John High School in Ashtabula and Ashland University in Ashland, OH with a business degree. Ray was in the car business from the tender age of five, where he would clean bumpers and later change tires at his dad’s car lot. As he grew he became more and more involved in the car business and eventually became partners with his brother George. After working in Hartsgrove for 14 years, he bought a lot in Painesville and ran a successful business with his brother Ken for 21 years. Ray loved to be active, coaching his sons in baseball, playing golf with them, or teaching his daughter to play volleyball. If he wasn’t with his family, he was playing sports...golf, tennis, baseball, softball, volleyball, ping pong, shooting pool, or his newfound love, pickleball.He was an avid fan of the Cleveland sports teams and especially loved to watch or attend Cleveland Indians games. One of his greatest memories was playing in the Indians Fantasy Camp several years ago in Goodyear, Arizona.Ray is survived by the love of his life of 33 years, Janis (Deka), children Matthew, Leah Moretz (Cooper), and Jacob, siblings Carol Svec (Frank), James (Paula) Poyar, George (Kathy) Poyar, Kenneth (Leslie) Poyar, Janet Carfi (Victor), Annette Suhovecky (Michael), Robert (Regina) Poyar, and Kathy Foglio (John) along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Poyar and sister Marilyn Poyar.Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate Ray’s life from 3-8 pm on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, Ohio 44060. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am, Friday, July 1, 2022 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060 (Please meet at the church.)Internment will take place at All Souls Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Saint John School via the following link www.brunners.com (http://www.brunners.com)
