Raymond James Howard Sr., 90, passed away July 24, 2023 at the Spring Village Assisted Living in Dover, NH. He was born June 23, 1933 in Plaistow, NH, son of the late Lawrence Donald Howard and Josephine (Kline) Howard.
Ray grew up in Plaistow and Newton, NH. He was one of five children in his family. In 1952, he married Lucille Gauthier and they resided their whole lives in the Rockingham County of NH. It was mainly in Plaistow and Atkinson where they raised their children. Ray was a longtime general contractor in the local area. He and Lucille built the Big-H function facility in Plaistow, which they owned and operated for many years. Ray and Lucille loved dancing and they made Country Western music the main feature at the Big-H. Ray loved antiques and learning about early American History, and he especially liked learning about the Civil War. Family heritage was also of importance to Ray. He cherished all of his family photos, which he always looked at and shared stories about. Ray was a quiet man and his hobbies included fishing, farming, ranching, making birdhouses, and collecting things that he thought could be useful at a later time.
In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his wife, Lucille Howard.
Ray is survived by his six children and their spouses: Raymond Howard, Jr. and his wife Barbara, Nancy Irwin, Cheryl Rudy and her husband Bill, Suzanne Howard, Yvonne Blinn, and Rosanne Seiler. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother, Richard Howard and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Epping, NH.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping, NH.
