Raymond Kenneth Dunn, 94, died Sunday evening, April 23 at his home with his loving wife Margaret (Peggy) by his side. He had been under hospice care at home for a few weeks.
Ray was born in the Borough of the Bronx, New York on January 22, 1929 to Ann and Thomas Dunn, Sr. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother, Thomas, Jr., his sister-in-law Elaine and his first wife, Diane.
Ray attended St. Agnes Boys High School in Manhattan, New York. The school's motto is "Virtus Valet," character and strength, which defined Ray's core values. It was during this time that he snagged his first part-time job, after school, in the mailroom at Flyntco in Rockefeller Center. A short time after graduation from high school he received a letter from Uncle Sam and was enlisted in the U.S. Army 223rd Infantry Division. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for Valor o April 2, 1952.
After Ray returned from Korea he pursued a career with the U.S Postal Service and eight years before he retired directed the day-to-day activities of the Elberon Post Office in Elberon, New Jersey. In his spare time he was a volunteer firefighter with the Long Branch Fire Department, West End Company #3 in West End, New Jersey. Retiring to Florida with his first wife, Diane, the sunny weather offered opportunities for outdoor hobbies and one of those hobbies that he loved was tennis. He joined the Racketeers at Miles Grant Country Club and later on became president of its tennis club. He was a beloved member of MGCC for many years. He was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Margaret (Peggy) of 24 years and several nieces and nephews who added a lot of smiles and joy to his earthly journey. Ray was a beautiful soul, truthful, kind and witty. He will be forever missed.
Funeral arrangement are by Young & Prill and a celebration of his life and memorial will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice or St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Hobe Sound in his honor.
