Raymond R. Dominy 92, of the Terrace at Woodland Assisted Living in Rome passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Bethany Gardens in Rome.
He was born on September 15, 1928 in Churbusco, NY a son of the late Peter and Matilda (Spoor) Dominy. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
On February 19, 1955 at St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg, NY he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Fleury a blessed union of over 57 Years filled with much love and mutual devotion. Mrs. Dominy passed away on December 25, 2013.
He was employed with the Marcy Psychiatric Center in Marcy as a Transportation Specialist, retiring in 1986 after 39 years of dedicated service. He also was a bus driver for the Holland Patent School District.
Mr. Dominy was a member of St. Leo's and St. Ann's Catholic Church in Holland Patent. The VFW Upton Memorial Post 8259 in Stittville, and the American Legion Leon R. Roberts Post 161 in Holland Patent. He was an avid fan of the Utica College Pioneers Hockey Team, attending many games over the years.
He is survived by his children, daughters, Rebecca Edmondson and her husband Austin of Morganfield, KY, Kelly Ellsworth and her husband Brian of Bel Air, MD., and Michelle Dominy of Patrick, South Carolina. He leaves his grandchildren, Amanda Hatfield and her husband Donovan, Sean Edmondson, Casey Ellsworth, Sarah Ellsworth, and Eric Brown and his wife Shirley. He was predeceased by a son Peter Dominy in 1975, and a grandson Scott Brown. He also was predeceased by his siblings, James Dominy, Katy Cole, Dorothy Sunderlin, Florence Nichols, Melinda Silver, John Dominy and Mike Dominy.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Terrace at Woodland in Rome for the many acts of kindness shown to Mr. Dominy over the years, and also a special thank you to Bethany Gardens where he was able to spend the last days of his life being well cared for and comfortable.
A public service, Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held next year in the spring at the Townsend Cemetery in Stittville .A time and date to be announced . There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. in Whitesboro.
