Raymond "Andy" Lee Anderson, 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021. He was born on October 30, 1931 to the late Clyde Fitch Anderson and Katherine Frush Anderson. Andy was born and raised in Hagerstown and was very proud of his hometown. He grew up learning to work hard at Clarence Martin's Grocery in the West End and enjoyed playing basketball and softball in between work hours. Later on, he became well known for his catching skills, as well as batting, playing for organized fast pitch softball teams in Washington County. He followed in his brother Bob's footsteps, whom he admired greatly, as a catcher. Andy enlisted and served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1954 with an Honorable Discharge as a Corporal in the 547 Ordnance Company, Field Maintenance. He often said how much he appreciated the experience of being in the Army and serving his country. He had a green thumb for gardening and was talented with woodworking. His gardens brought forth such an abundance of fruits and vegetables, especially the "Belgium Giants" tomatoes. He designed and made beautiful furniture for his family. Basically Andy could do anything he set his mind to do. One of his favorite past-times was hunting. He could tell you many stories of his glory days of hunting. It was a hobby that he probably enjoyed the most. He held several jobs working for Logan's Dry Cleaners, Western Maryland Supply, the Railroad, and finally retiring from Mack Trucks/Volvo with almost 30 years of service. His retirement years were immensely enjoyed by him and his wife Beverly, the love of his life. Andy was a faithful steward for the Lord. He loved the Lord and would witness to anyone about the Lord. He felt strongly about sharing God's Word with others. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son, and he never met a stranger. No one will ever fill Andy's shoes. He was adored by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Anderson, William Anderson, Clyde F. Anderson Jr., Jean Sullivan, and Jack Anderson, his granddaughter, Lindsey Leasure, and one angel great-grandbaby. Raymond is survived by his wife, Beverly Anderson, his children, Jeffrey Anderson, Ray Anderson II (Dawn), Kimberly Leasure (Mark), Jamie Fleming (Dave), Jim Brown (Anne), and Joni Metcalf (Ross), his grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren, Alexa, Emma, Ben, Andrew, Allison, Samantha, Ryan, Megan, Joshua, Hannah, Isaiah, Kirsti, Zachary, his great-grandchildren, Evie, Andie, Sky, Noah, Gabe, Iliana, Reagan, Cami, Lucy, Charlie, Charlotte, Sebastian, Lincoln, Kataleya, Dariella, Addi, Emmi, Gwennie, Payton, and Aubree, and his brother, Stanley Anderson. Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
