Raul Yzaguirre
January 21, 1914 – May 3, 2014
Premont, Texas – Raul Yzaguirre, a long time resident of the Jim Wells and Duval County area went to be with his Lord on May 3, 2014. Raul is preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Eloisa Canales Yzaguirre, his parents, Filberto Francisco Luna Yzaguirre and Teofila Mendez Yzaguirre of Starr and Duval Counties, and his sisters, Salome Yzaguirre Yzaguirre, Delia Sauceda, and Aida Sauceda.
Raul was a direct descendent of at least three Texas pioneer families who were recipients of land grants from the Spanish and Mexican governments in the 17 and 1800s in the Starr, Zapata, Brooks, and Duval County area. He was born on the El Cinco Ranch in Brooks and spent his early years in Duval County.
In subsequent years, Raul was an independent business owner having worked in the television and radio repair industry and refrigeration and air conditioning industry when such items were not commonplace in the home. He was later a career Civil Service employee and involved with real estate in Kingsville, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, and Premont, Texas.
Raul was competent and a master in many trades including calculating the cost and planning of new government construction, air conditioning and refrigeration, radio and TV repair, a trade he passed on to his two eldest sons, plumbing, and construction. He was also a master electrician. He was a trained and licensed pilot.
He passed the time with his passion for communicating on the air as an FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operator (a HAM). He was also a member of the Military Affiliated Radio System and assisted soldiers overseas in communicating with their families via radio in an era before the Internet and the modern telephone. His network also assisted with communications during times of natural disaster.
He enjoyed playing musical instruments, photography, chess, art, fishing, and building fishing and electronic equipment. He became obsessed with many hobbies and became a master at most of them. He was a long-standing member of the Texas Sheriffs’ Association, the Premont Chamber of Commerce, and the Federal Civil Defense Administration.
Raul was also a proud member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry - a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived his children; Paul (Maggie) Yzaguirre, Lydia Almaraz, Noe (Elizabeth) Yzaguirre, Israel Yzaguirre and Eve (Glen) Hayes; three brothers; Feliberto Yzaguirre, Ramiro Yzaguirre and Salvador (Lucille) Yzaguirre and three sisters: Elia Alanis, Adelfa Maesta and Angelina (Albert) Solis.
