Palmhurst/Mission- Raquel Cerda Garcia, 84, born June 25, 1938, in Mission, TX, gained her angel wings and entered into eternal rest on August 17, 2022.
Mrs. Garcia is preceded in death by her parents, Benigno and Rebecca Cerda from La Joya, TX, and her siblings; Benigno Cerda Jr., Esperanza C. Pe?a, Joaquin Cerda and Josefina C. Rivera.
Mrs. Garcia will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Hector Gustavo Garcia Sr., her beloved children; Hector Gustavo Garcia Jr. (Claudia), Carlos Rene Garcia (Deborah), Noemi G. Gutierrez (Rene), Noelia G Garcia (Jose Luis +), grandchildren; Cheyenne Garcia, Antonio Jose Garcia, Victoria Savannah Smart (Casey Gage), Alissa LaCole Garcia, great-granddaughter, Rory Gage Smart, her brother, Francisco Cerda (Irma), her loving sister, Lucia C Longoria, brother in law, Manuel Pe?a, sisters in law; Minerva O. Cerda, Sylvia De Luna Cerda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A loving wife, mother, aunt, sister and friend, Raquel's distinct loving nature was evident to all those around her, especially her nephews and nieces. Special memories of how she stepped into a mother role as 2nd mom to her nephew, Albert Pe?a, when her sister, Espie, passed on suddenly, is just another example of her dedication to family.
An avid cook and baker, Raquel made the best pan de polvo cookies, making everything from scratch, never measuring ingredients and pouring everything freehand. Her famous potato salad and cornbread were the best. She could make a feast of a regular meal.
Being a talented seamstress, when she took her sons to apply for work at Texas Employment Commission, it was she who ended up getting a job at the famous Bride's Shop in McAllen, TX. Upon conversing with the caseworker at TEC, he informed her that the Bride's Shop had a posting for a seamstress. He offered her the job and she accepted. She was very dedicated to her job, assisting brides from all over the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. She appeared in several TV commercials for The Bride's Shop and also managed their sister store, The Bride's Warehouse. Countless brides would hire Mrs. Garcia to assist with dressing of the bride on their special day and making their gowns look absolutely perfect.
Mrs. Garcia has touched countless family members and friends who are consoled by the thought of her rejoicing with departed family members in heaven. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her huge laughter and beautiful smiles.
As a celebration of her life and legacy, friends and family will gather at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission TX on August 27, 2022, at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Santa Fe Cemetery, 5050 Doffing Rd, Mission, TX. Memories can be shared at https://www.virgilwilsonmortuary.com/obituaries. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her name to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission, TX.
