Saratoga Springs – Raphael “Rae” Mangona, 95, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Saratoga Springs Home of the Good Shepherd surrounded by her family. A lifelong Saratogian, Rae was born on October 17, 1926 to the late Vincenzo and Delia Sarro. She is the youngest of five brothers and two sisters. Rae was married to the late Carl P. Mangona and together they raised three children. Rae was an active participant for the St. Peter’s Academy lunch program. She also enjoyed years of work with the Saratoga Board of Elections assisting at polling sites. She was also the Vice President of the family run construction company; C.P. Mangona & Sons Inc. She also spent much time volunteering. Rae helped start the Ladies Auxiliary for the Italian American War Veterans and served as president for multiple terms. A fantastic cook, Rae loved preparing traditional Italian meals for her family… and her family loved it too! Later in life she and Carl P. spent many happy times at the Saratoga Race Track and Casino and spend summers on Saratoga Lake with her family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Rae is predeceased by her brothers; Pat, Bruno, Frank, Vinny, and Joey Sarro and sisters Gladys Eastman and Jenni Jones. She is survived by her children; Carl A. (Betty) Mangona, Rick Mangona, and Bonnie (Anthony) Arpey all of Saratoga Springs, grandsons; Carl G. (Katie) Mangona of Georgia, and Rickey V. Mangona, II of Saratoga Springs, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY by Reverend Thomas Chevalier. Burial will follow at 11:30am at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY. There will be no calling hours. The family would like to thank the staff at Home of the Good Sheperd; for the years of care and kindness shown to their mom.
