Randolph "Randy" Stephen Williams, 63, passed away on June 18, 2024 in Sevierville, TN. He was born in Elizabethton, TN and raised in Rustburg, VA.
Randy fought a lengthy battle with progressive aphasia (PPA), a type of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). PPA has no known cause or cure. This condition slowly damages the parts of the brain that control speech and language. PPA/FTD is a difficult disease to diagnose because it can look like Alzheimer's Disease, stroke, or even depression. The only way to obtain a confirmed diagnosis is through brain donation. Randy's family wished to donate his brain to further FTD research and to receive a confirmed diagnosis.
Randy served and retired honorably as a Captain with the United States Air Force where he was a highly respected member receiving numerous honors and medals. His dedication to his country was evident in all aspects of his life, reflecting his commitment to service and honor. His tour of duties included such posts as Afghanistan and the Pentagon.
His legacy lives on through his daughter, Ashton Hennessey (Jonathan), grandsons Reece and Mason; his son, Micah Williams (Allie) and soon to be granddaughter. Sisters, Sandra Williams (Sally); Debbie Hargrave (Milt); Margie Williams and brother, Bob Williams. And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a loving family man who will be deeply missed.
Randy's favorite pastimes were working in the yard planting flowers and trees, playing a few rounds of golf, fishing and attempts at snowboarding. He had a quick wit and enjoyed playing practical jokes on his co-workers and family.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the team at Sevierville Health and Rehabilitation and Caris Hospice in Sevierville, TN for their exemplary compassion and care they provided to Randy, especially during his last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Randy be sent by check to : Brain Support Network PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026. Or by credit card online at: www.brainsupportnetwork.org/donate
Burial services will take place at The Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Randy's favorite bible verse: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint". Isaiah 40:31
