A Memorial Service is planned for 2:00pm, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Burnet, TX. Burial to follow at Burnet Cemetery, Burnet, TX.
Randy was born on January 29, 1953 in Houston, TX to Amos Dee and Walterine Tabb Buckner. He graduated from Milby High School, Houston, TX in 1971, studied Engineering Technology and Computer Science at the University of Houston and San Jacinto College, receiving an Associate's Degree in Computer Science from San Jacinto College in 1975. Randy was also a certified instructor of Quality Electronics Assembly & Engineering (IPC-610), a certified technologist for NASA flight and quality specifications (NHB-5300), and an IPC-2000 Printed Circuit Board Designer.
Professionally, Randy was CEO of Dimensional Circuitronics, Inc. starting in 1980. He also owned and operated Positive Enterprises, Inc., a consulting and electronics development company, starting in 1992. In both endeavors, he enjoyed the creativity and problem solving presented by engineering projects in the oil & gas, aerospace, and commercial industries. As a small business owner, Randy held great pride in being able to create opportunities for employees that worked with and for him. Later, his career led him to senior scientist / technical roles at Johnson Engineering / Spacehab, Inc., Nanoridge Materials, and Bencor, LLC. He loved helping these companies make technical and scientific advances and would have done the work for free (he loved it so much) if the world worked that way.
His personal interests included the outdoors (hunting & fishing), the arts (theater, music, film, books), and areas of personal study like solar power, hydroponic gardening, 3D printing, Texas history, and the Second World War. He was a Christian who had a strong belief and faith in Jesus Christ. His favorite Bible verse was simply, "Be still and know that I am God. ~Psalm 46:10"
While at the University of Houston, Randy met his future wife Phyllis Kathleen Bruce, who he married on January 27, 1979. He and Phyllis would have two children, Nicholas Reagan and Katie Elyse, raising them in Houston, TX. He would later say to Phyllis, "Nick and Katie are the best thing that ever happened to us." He loved his family very much.
Randy is survived by: his children, Nicholas Buckner and wife, Kelly; Katie Garza and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Avery Buckner, Hailey Bandy, Jayden Bandy, and Grayson Garza; sisters, Vicki Reber and husband, Blair; Kimberly Youngquist and husband, Brian; mother, Walterine Tabb Buckner; his nephew and nieces, Kurt Reber, Sommer Bridges, and Samantha Scofield; and Phyllis (Bruce) Wolfe. He was preceded in death by his father Amos Dee Buckner.
