Randal R. Harmon, 93, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 26. He was the beloved husband of 73 years to Cecilia Marie (Klunk) Harmon.
Mr. Harmon was born on December 8, 1928 in Crossroads and was the son of the late John M. and Etoil E. (DeLauter) Harmon.
Randal was self-employed as a builder for the last 52 years. Prior to being self-employed he worked as a union carpenter for many years for Carson Linebaugh of York. Randal was also the builder and owner of Ran-Dell Townhouses and D-Town Mini Storage, which he owned for 44 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Dallastown and was an active member of the York Carvers Association and made many carved pieces for his family, and was also a member of the York County Builders Association.
Randal and his wife enjoyed spending summers at their second home in Colorado for many years, where they used it as home base to travel and visit throughout the American west. While in Colorado he began sculpting in marble and his mother bear with baby now sits in his front yard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Randal R. Harmon, II and his wife Jacqueline, of York; granddaughter, Daniella M. Arroyo, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind the world’s best dog, Lucky.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ralph D. Harmon; sisters, Helen Uffelman, Nora McCullough, and June Steinruck, and his brother, Clark Harmon, who was killed in action during WW II.
A graveside service to celebrate Randal’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 31 at Dallastown Union Cemetery, with Fr. Charles Topper officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 AM.
