Ramona Morehead passed on May 3, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. The neighborhood grandmother and avid yard worker. Mona was born to Ramon and Estela Castelo on April 10, 1941 in Shafter Texas. Her passion in life was working in her yard and sharing her wisdom with the neighborhood children. A faithful parishioner at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church in Midland TX. Mona, was a single mother who worked tirelessly to raise her 4 children. In 2017 due to a sudden illness Mona was forced into retirement from all activities. Mona's families described her as passionate, strong, independent, full of life and immense love for her family.
She is survived by her siblings Joe "Che" Castelo (wife Oralia) of El paso, TX, Maria Aleman (husband Joe) and Oralia "Ollie" Sanchez (husband Erasmo) both of Odessa, TX. In addition, Mona is grieved by her children Cruz Sanchez and Elizabeth Carrasco (husband Angel Carrasco) both of Midland, TX, and adoptive son Edward "Rabbit" Bundy of Midland, TX. Along with her children, Mona is mourned by her grandchildren Henry Rubio (Lori Gomez), Sara Carrasco (Jonathan Ramirez), Valarie Lerma all of Midland, TX. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her legacy will continue in her 12 great grandchildren. Mona is proceeded in death by her parents, brother Tony Castelo, daughter Roseanna Sanchez, son Ray Sanchez and fur babies. Special gratitude for Home Hospice of Midland, caregivers Shay Ingram, Joanna Bernard, Margie Crutrer and Mattie Justice for the countless hours of care and companionship.
Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Castelo, Rudy Castelo, Ramon "Jo Jo" Castelo, Henry Rubio lll, Erasmo Sanchez JR, Gabriel Carrillo, Keith Gardea and Seth Gardea. Honorary pallbearers are Luis Amancio, Jonathan Ramirez, Sara Carrasco and Lexy Gardea.
Viewing will be held at Heavenly Gate Funeral Home Thursday May 5th from 10am to 9pm. Rosary from 7pm to 8pm. Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Friday, May 6th at 10am in Midland, TX. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
