Ramon Crespin Noches, Colonel, U.S. Air Force, retired, passed away on January 29, 2021. He and his twin, Ramona Christina were born in Lawrence, KS on January 5, 1941 to Rose Newman Noches and Ramon Francis Noches, a Tuskegee Airman.
Ramon attended Lawrence and Topeka Public schools, including Lincoln Elementary, Monroe Elementary and Crane Junior High. Ramon attended Washburn University where he joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the Air Force ROTC program. After graduating in 1963, he was commissioned as an Air Force Officer. He married Nancy Jane Todd in June, 1964 at St. John AME Church in Topeka, KS.
After the wedding, Ramon and Nancy moved to Kincheloe AFB, Kinross, Michigan. Later assignments sent them to Guam, Alabama and Shreveport, LA. In 1970, Ramon deployed to Vietnam for a year. Later, the family moved to Rhein-Main AFB, Frankfurt, Germany. During this time, Ramon graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Master of Science in Business Management. When Ramon was not working, the family hosted dinner parties and traveled throughout Europe.
Additional assignments were Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS; Washburn University AFROTC, Topeka, KS; Langley AFB, Hampton, VA; the Pentagon and Bergstrom AFB, Austin, TX where Ramon retired as a Colonel. After his military retirement, Ramon worked for Southern Union Gas Company, Texas Health and Human Service Commission, KODAK/DANKA Services International and the City of Austin.
Pleasant, outgoing and witty, Ramon was a gifted storyteller. He published an autobiography, "A Journey from 726 Walnut St. to the Pentagon." He enjoyed college football, the Kansas City Chiefs and collecting early R&B records. Ramon's Kansas City-style BBQ ribs were legendary, involving a secret marinade and dry rub.
Ramon is preceded in death by his parents, Rose Newman Noches and Ramon Francis Noches, and in-laws Lucinda Wilson Todd and Alvin C. Todd.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly 57 years, Nancy Noches (Austin, TX); his two daughters, Lucinda Noches Talbert (Kansas City, KS); and Rose Noches (San Antonio, TX); his twin sister, Ramona Brice (Topeka, KS); three grandchildren, Angela Talbert (Jacksonville, FL), Taylor Wilmore, Ashley Wilmore (San Antonio, TX); one great-grandchild, Jaden White (Vandenberg AFB, Lompoc, CA); two nephews, one niece and a host of extended family, fraternity brothers, former co-workers, classmates and friends.
