Ralph E. Darrah, 93, of Rochester died early Friday morning, August 7, 2020 at Historic Homes of Runnemede in Windsor.
Ralph was born December 13, 1926 in Rochester; the son of Allen and Dora (Foy) Darrah. He attended Rochester schools and graduated in 1945. After high school he entered the US Army. He married Constance (McGrath) on April 2, 1949. Ralph worked as an electrician and plumber throughout Rochester and the surrounding communities.
He was a prototypical member of our Greatest Generation, who embodied everything exceptional about the finest men we have had the honor of knowing. A Great Depression child, a WWII veteran, a manual laborer, a provider, and the most selfless man you could ever meet, who truly never complained about a thing.
He belonged to the Masons, Rural Lodge # 29. His hobbies included puttering in the shop, crossword puzzles, and maple sugaring for 50 years in which he earned many VT State Blue ribbons for his excellent maple cream. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah and her husband Owen Hamilton, and Karen Lake; grandson, Michael Lake and his wife Mandy; great grandchild, Austin Grace Lake. He was predeceased by his wife, Constance in 1998; five brothers and three sisters.
