Ralph Henry Bateman, from Kent Island, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2022. Ralph is survived by his daughter Mandi Bateman, from Sausalito, California, Ian K. Bateman, from Pasadena, Maryland and his beloved K-9, Pearl. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Bateman and Dorothy Bateman, both from Baltimore, Maryland.

Ralph attended Bowie State University where he received an undergraduate degree in psychology and then as a graduate student, studied Quantitative Psychology at the University of Maryland. He had a long career at AT&T as a software engineer and retired in 2002.
Ralph served with the 11th Infantry Brigade in the ARMY. He was stationed in Vietnam from the year 1969 to 1970. He received for his military service the Army Commendation Medal and Purple Heart. He enjoyed writing and focused on his time in Vietnam. He wrote of the struggles he and his fellow soldiers experienced during the war.
Ralph lived on Kent Island for over 30 years where he raised both Mandi and Ian. He was always active in the local community with sports and community events. Many families saw him on the local sports fields volunteering as a coach or referee. In recent years, he could be found helping disabled veterans and was an officer in the Edward T. Conroy MD DAV. In his spare time, Ralph loved to fish and would fish every chance he could get. He also loved going to the Ravens and Orioles games with his friends and family. He will be sorely missed.
