Retired Air Force MSgt Raleigh Conley Godwin passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 13, 2022 in Auburn, Georgia, at the age of 100.
Raleigh is survived by his son-in-law, Edward Emerson Combs, his grandchildren Edward Raleigh Combs, Amy LaNora Xydias (Ted Albert Xydias), Christopher Daniel Combs (Roxanne Leigh Combs), and Katryn Tara Combs. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Roman Alexander Xydias (Jessica Erin Xydias), Ashton LaNora Burton (Jeremy Craig Burton), Alexandra Julian Combs, Evan Daniel Combs, great-great grandchildren, Benjamin, Julian, Bradley and Willow. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Julian Madge Godwin, and his daughter Myrtle LaNora Combs.
Raleigh was born on November 10, 1921, in Colquitt Georgia to parents Serene Jane (Bryan) Godwin, and Oscar Wallace Godwin. He graduated from Rehobeth High School in May,1940. He married his beloved Julian Madge (Hall) Godwin on February 12,1948.
Raleigh served his country for 23 years in the Army Air Corps and Air Force beginning with WWII (1942-1945). After being recalled to duty for the Korean War in February,1953, he remained active duty, also serving in the Vietnam War. He retired from service April 30, 1973.
Raleigh was dedicated to family, passionate about spending time with friends and loved ones, and strived to live life to the fullest.
The visitation is scheduled for 12:00 pm Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan, Alabama with the service starting at 1:00 pm. Interment following the service at Memory Hill Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
