entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, in Brownsville, Texas. Mrs. Rafaela E. Garza was a dedicated homemaker, wife, exemplary mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mrs. Garza was beloved for her cooking, bendiciones (blessings), green thumb and unwavering faith. She enjoyed reading the newspaper, trying new foods, gardening and church services. Loved ones and plants flourished under her care. Mrs. Garza was preceded in death by her husband Roberto G. Garza, her parents, Vicente and Ignacia Esparza, her siblings Juan De Dios Esparza, Aurora E. Nevarez, Francisca Esparza, and Ernestina E. Muller. Left to cherish Mrs. Garza's memory are her four children: Sylvia G. (Sai) Lau, Roberto (Gina) Garza Jr., Jose Luis (Esperanza) Garza Sr. and Pedro (Elena) Garza Sr.; her grandchildren, Christina Rafaela, Aileen, Jose Luis Jr., Sean, Sonia, Jose Angel, Ryan, Samantha, Pete Jr., Vincent, Jaime, Fidel, Jaraeth, Roberto James and Allison Rafaela; her great-grandchildren, Emme, Nathan, Cassandra, Issac, Jaiden Angel, Avery Michael, Guillermo, Adrian, Alexa, Gia, and Isabel; and her beloved chihuahua Rex. On behalf of Mrs. Garza's memory, the family asks the community to continue to take precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19 by social-distancing and wearing a mask. A viewing will begin Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at 1 p.m., and continue until 9 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell, Brownsville, Texas, on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at 1 p.m. with a Committal Service to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Honored to be serving as pallbearers will be Pete Garza Jr., Vincent Garza, Jose Angel Garza and Fidel Garza. Honorary pallbearers will be Roberto Garza Jr., Jose Luis Garza Sr., and Pedro Garza Sr. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, cemeteries, mausoleums, and crematory, 125 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville, Texas 78521, (956) 541-5400.
