Priscilla Stovall Long of Richardson, Texas passed away on October 26, 2022 at the age of 77. She was born on December 15, 1944 to Clifton Woodrow and Melba June (Horn) Stovall in McKinney, Texas. Priscilla married James Scott Long on June 15, 1963 in McKinney, Texas.
Priscilla was a gifted musician. She taught piano to hundreds of students, young and old, including private lessons, elementary students in DISD, and at Brookhaven Community College. She played piano and organ for multiple churches throughout her career, including her beloved Community Christian Church in Richardson and her family church First Christian Church, McKinney, where she met her husband Scott. She accompanied many young musicians for their UIL solo and ensemble competitions as well as professional vocalists. She loved Bach and Beethoven. She memorized all the preludes and fugues of Book I of Bach's Well-Tempered Klavier and 30 of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. She had perfect pitch.
At McKinney High School, she was allowed to spend afternoons attending piano lessons at Southern Methodist University. She received a full scholarship for her undergraduate studies at SMU where she received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. She later completed her Master's degree at SMU in Piano Performance. She enjoyed the Dallas Summer Musicals, Dallas Symphony, and classical music on WRR. She was a member of the Richardson Music Teachers and supported music education every way that she could.
She loved plants and nature, and was an active member of Cottonwood Creek Garden Club. She loved orchids and growing a variety of plants around the house. She enjoyed watching the deer and foxes in the yard when she was in the Texas hill country. Her favorite cruise with Scott was when they went to Alaska, where she got to play with sled dog puppies and see Denali national park. She spent many vacations going to national parks in Colorado, and traveling across the United States, with Scott and her children.
Most importantly, Priscilla was a wife, mother, educator, and friend to many. She led a life of faith and service to others, always with a smile on her face. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her children, James Clifton Long and wife, Jana of Austin, Texas, Lisa Jill Long of Austin, Texas, and Dr. Scott Wesley Long and wife, Megan of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, James Hunter Long of Austin, Texas, Carter Scott Long of Houston, Texas, and Jack Henry Long of Houston, Texas; brother, Steve Stovall and wife, Amy of Overland Park, Kansas; and numerous other loving nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her husband, James Scott Long, and her parents Clifton and Melba June Stovall.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2022 at Community Christian Church, 1300 Holly Drive, Richardson, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
