Priscilla Eugiene Sosa was welcomed to Our Lord's home on January 30,2021. She was born in Kingsville, Texas on September 18, 1962 to Francisco Sosa and Elizabeth Morales of Laredo, Texas. Prissy was a treasured first child as she was born while her daddy attended Texas A&I University during her infancy years to complete his degree in Music Education, a passion Prissy followed as Mariachi Director and as an early childhood educator across the state of Texas. She was a loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and great-aunt to her extended family. She enjoyed cooking, baking and grilling for her loved ones. Prissy's passion in mariachi music leaves a legacy in the McAllen Independent School District where she served as director for all 3 high schools. She took the group to UIL competition to earn highest honors for vocals, musicality, and original compositions. Her musical ability allowed her to highlight the talents of singing and guitar playing at a very young age with her daddy's dance band, Sonora Brass, Grupo Sensaci?n and Mariachi Guadalupano in Laredo, Texas.
Prissy began her teaching career in 1986 in the small community of Rio Grande City. Shortly after, she moved to Cotulla, Texas, then Austin, Texas, where she had her son. She expanded her teaching career there, and then continued in Laredo, Texas to be close to her parents. In 1992, she became part of the McAllen ISD. She served McAllen ISD proudly for 27 years as one of the state's pioneers of Mariachi Music Education, as recognized by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). She proudly served as "Maestra" to her students who were affectionately attached to her musical passions, calling her a kind and a gentlewoman.
In addition, Prissy was pursuing a doctoral degree in higher education and writing her dissertation, which focused on the positive effects of participation in high school mariachi programs on Latino males and their outlook on continuing to higher education.
Prissy was the oldest of eight children. Her parents, Francisco and Elizabeth Sosa of Laredo, Texas, Paternal grandparents Carlos and Dolores Sanchez Sosa, maternal grandparents Bernabe and Maria de Jesus Herrera Morales, precede her in death. She is survived by her son Antonio Javier Sosa of McAllen; her siblings Franciscio Javier (Alfira) Sosa of Laredo, Dolores Marie(Gabriel) Lugo of Laredo, Dr. Patricia Yvonne Sanchez (Reymundo) of Denton, Elizabeth Davila (Jacinto) of Laredo, Melinda Yvette Sosa of Arlington, Juanita Odette Ballance (Jeremy) of Holt Summit, Missouri, and Juan Gerardo Sosa (Dolores Lessner) of Laredo, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous extended family and friends.
