Pik Wa Cheung died at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, 31st March 2021. She was born December 25th in 1934 on tropical Hainan Island in China. Atypically for a woman, she graduated from college in China with a degree in accounting and for many years worked for the Chinese government in Hainan. In 1979 her family moved to Hong Kong after suffering extended persecution from the Chinese Communist government.
In 1993, Mrs. Cheung immigrated to the United States with her husband, Kim Fan Li, who predeceased her in 2011. Her multigenerational family lived in Northampton, Massachusetts for many years.
Mrs. Cheung was the last remaining sibling of 9 children, and lived with her daughter's family in Northampton. Her grandchildren, from Hong Kong and Copenhagen, Hilton Lau, Henry, Jackie and Ray, lived with her and attended Northampton High School along with their cousins Bryan and Benjamin Cheung.
Mrs. Cheung was the last surviving sibling of 9 children. She loved to cook and doted on her grandchildren. Though she did not speak English, Mrs. Cheung communicated easily; her warmth and outgoing personality transcended language.
She is survived by her daughter, Clara Li of Northampton, son-in-law Kenny Cheung, grandchildren Bryan and Benjamin Cheung; a son, Benjamin of Copenhagen, Denmark, grandson Ray Li; her son, Chi Cheung Li, and his wife May, of Hong Kong, and their children: Henry, Jackie, Sarah and Clairie, and a great-grandchild, Caitlyn.
Services for Mrs. Cheung are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. CZELUSNIAK FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with arrangements.
