Phyllis Marie Gay Zubulake, 84, of Northbrook, IL and Sarasota, FL, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 24, 2023. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 15, 1939 to Lawrence Granville Gay and M. Pauline (Reynolds) Gay. She was the beloved wife for 60 years of George H. Zubulake; loving mother of George H. "Charlie" (Jane) Zubulake and Gay Anne (Derek) Boundy; cherished grandmother of Grace Marie, Hannah Joy and Joshua George Boundy; dear sister of the late Gerald "Jerry" (Diane) Gay; fond aunt of Jamie (Fred) Schlafke, Jerry (Kaija) Gay, Julie Gay (Jeff Windschitl), Jennifer (Joe) Foline, Sean (Jana) Gay, Harry Zubulake, Condello (the late Mike) Hostetler, Mary Ellen (Les) Everhart; Mary (Jeff) Coulter, Peter Maduros, Maria Zubulake, the late Charles 'Chuckie' Zubulake; great aunt and great, great aunt to many.
Phyllis spent her childhood in Anoka, Minnesota where she graduated from Anoka High School in 1957. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1962, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, served as Panhellenic President, was selected on the homecoming court and served on the Student Government Board.
Phyllis had many activities. She loved to play bridge and earned her Master Bridge status. She bowled and golfed for many years with her dear friends. She also served as President and Member of her beloved PEO, Northbrook Women's Club, Wood Oaks PTA, Glenbrook North Marching Band Parents Organization and the Women's Nine Hole Golf League at Stoneybrook Country Club, to name a few.
Phyllis, a faithful Christian believer, was a member at the Village Presbyterian Church in Northbrook, Illinois for 45 years and served in many capacities: Deacon, Elder, Choir and Bell Choir Member, Membership Chair and Chair of Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. She was also an Associate Member of the Church of the Palms in Sarasota, FL for 20 years.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 4 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview, IL. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 5 at 11:00 am at the Village Presbyterian Church, 1300 Shermer Road, Northbrook, IL 60062.
