Phyllis Dolores Fogle Lawson passed away at the Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on September 3rd, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born in Corbin, KY on January 1st, 1928, the only child of Hoover and Leona Fogle, who preceded her in death. Except for a brief time living in Middlesboro during her early years, Dolores lived her entire life in Loyall, and was very proud of her Harlan County roots. After graduating from Loyall High School in 1945, she was able to spend one year at Transylvania University but returned to Loyall because college expenses were a financial hardship for her parents. In 1949, she married Edwin Lawson and began a family where she was a devoted mother to her children and Grandy to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As much as she loved Harlan County, she loved her Church more. She was a life-long member of the Loyall Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School, played the piano, sang in the choir, and was devoted to her Ladies Aide group.
She was also an exceptional and in-demand dog groomer, who owned and operated "Petrims by Dolores" for many years.
Besides her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Lawson in 1979 and her children, Phillip Lawson in 2003 and Medelle Lawson Lovelace in 2013 .
She is survived by the following members of her family:
Daughter, Tempa Bader and her children, Ryan and wife, Beth, and their children, Anna, Luke and Caroline, Johnson City TN; and Ross Bader, Nashville, TN
Daughter, Farra Shoffner and her husband, Jerry, and their children Celia and Trinity, Middlesboro, KY; and Nicklaus Shoffner, Georgetown, KY.
Grandson, Charles Lovelace Jr., his wife, Khyanna, and their children Khyon, London and Kyndall, Virginia Beach, VA
Grandson, Broderick Lovelace and his wife, Nita, and their children, Cole and Oliver, Greenville, SC
Granddaughter, Rachael Leona Lovelace and husband, Gurjeevan Singh, Hickory Tavern, SC.
Son-in-law, Charles Lovelace, Sr., Greenville, SC
Due to the surge in Covid cases, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. and Mrs. Tom Epperson for their guidance, kindness and support, to the staff at Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the overwhelming love and care they provided, and to the members of Loyall Church of Christ, who continued to show their love and support with cards, calls, and visits while she was in the nursing home. Also, to Annie Noe who was a good friend and neighbor.
Memorial gifts are suggested to the Loyall Church of Christ, P.O. Box 233, Loyall, KY 40854
