Age 93, of Longview, TX, passed away on May 16, 2021, after a long battle with illness. She was born on April 20, 1928, and was the daughter of William and Evelyn Walters of Detroit, Michigan. Every summer she would visit her mother's relatives in Pennsylvania including her cousins Marie (Ziegenfus) Rodli and Paul Ziegenfus. She had many pets growing up, but her favorite was her black cairn terrier, Wendy, who was a constant companion. She received a Bachelor's degree in chemistry and a Master's degree in education from the University of Michigan. She had many fond memories of Michigan Football and her dorm sisters. After briefly teaching in Port Huron, MI, she moved back to the Detroit area where she taught science and math at Derby Middle School in Birmingham, MI. It was there that she met her husband, Glenn, who taught English and foreign languages. They were married on August 27th, 1963. Phyllis and Glenn enjoyed travelling. They would frequently spend summers on the Maine coast where they had a cozy cottage. After Glenn retired in 1985, they would take trips further afield. Glenn died in 2008. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her son, Steve (Jane), her grandson, Brian, her sister-in-law, Mary Lou, her nephew, Scott King, and her cousin Paul. The family is very grateful for her caregivers at Buckner Westminster Place. She will be reunited with her husband at Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery, 5667 W. Eight Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan. No public service is planned. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial tributes to the Alzheimer's Association. A.J. Desmond & Sons, (248) 549-0500.
