Phyllis Louise Heizer passed away peacefully on October 17, 2021 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina at the age of 95. Phyllis was born to Harry and Louise Schuler on December 5, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the University of Cincinnati. She was hired by Bell Telephone Company in Cincinnati where she worked for over 30 years. She was a member of the Zonta Club, a business and professional organization, and was elected to Who's Who of American Women in 1974. Phyllis and her husband, Eugene, enjoyed many years at Torch Lake in Michigan before settling in Mount Pleasant, SC. They attended Christ Church in downtown Charleston for over 30 years where Phyllis was a volunteer Sunday school teacher.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Harry Schuler; mother, Louise Meiners; husband, Eugene Heizer; and younger sister, Carolyn Merchant. She is survived by her niece, Phyllis Merchant; her two nephews, Timothy and Daniel Merchant; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Heizer; and several cousins.
Phyllis had a smile that lit up the entire world. She always had a kind word for everyone and had a way about making people feel better by just being with her. She was bright, articulate, witty, and had an intense interest in others and the world around her. This grand lady was even a poet, a crossword whiz, and was always learning or taking part in something new, even in later years. Even though she had no children of her own, she took pleasure in being around the children of others. Everyone who knew Phyllis loved her. What a legacy to leave behind!
She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at Franke at Seaside where she resided.
