Phyllis "Joan" Garmon, 90, of Santa Paula passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 9, 2021. She was born on April 20, 1930 to Eugene and Ione Lamont in Turon, Kansas. Joan also had two older brothers, Ted and Charles Lamont. The family moved to Santa Paula when she was about 6 months old and she remained living in Santa Paula for the next 90 years.
Joan graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1948. In 1948 she also married the love of her life, Walt Garmon, who she would be married to for 68 years. She worked as on office manager for a group of doctors- Dr. MacDonald, Dr. Gordinier, and Dr.Slater. Later she worked for Santa Paula Healthcare Manor for approximately 20 years again as an office manager.
Joan was a member of Ventura Missionary Church and the Waylighters Council of Ventura Missionary Church. She loved crocheting, completing crossword puzzles, catching a good ball game, and traveling in their motor home, especially with the Waylighters Council. She also spent 25 years working with Family to Family in Ventura.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Ione Lamont; older brother, Ted Lamont;
and husband, Walt Garmon.
Joan is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and David Philips of Santa Paula; son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Renee Garmon of Ventura. She also leaves behind grandchildren Steven (Charlene) Gonzales and Amanda Gonzales; step-grandson, Ryan (Erica) Schmidt and Cameron Schmidt; great-granddaughters, Bailey and Brittaney Van Buren, Brooklyn Gonzales, Henslie Schmidt, Kinleigh and Olivia Gonzales. She is also survived by her cat named Mouse.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula and are private services due to COVID-19.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Santa Paula Hospice in memory of Joan Garmon.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert Rey Garcia Jr Funeral Service, 830 E Santa Paula Street, Santa Paula.
