Phillip Emory Smith Jr. Aka DJ Tuff passed away on 3/31 after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by loved ones.
DJ Tuff was born on Sept. 15, 1964, in Easton, Md. to Deloris Palmer Smith, and the late Phillip Smith Sr.
In 1973, the family moved to Meriden, Connecticut where Tuff attended school.
At a young age of 15, Tuff knew what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to be a DJ. From mastering his skills on our mother's record player and scratching up her records this was his passion.
Tuff returned to Maryland in his early 20's. He worked at different companies for example, Celeste Corporations in Easton and hauled crabs for Russell Doze Seafood (RDS). But that didn't stop him from doing what he loved. On any given weekend, you could sit on the "back street" in St. Michaels and hear DJ Tuff on his turn tables in the Sunset Bar & Grill.
Tuff loves sports, and any given Sunday, you would see him at home or in a sports bar cheering on his beloved New England Patriots.
Besides his mother, he leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters- Felicia (Paul) Smith-Harrison (Hoschton, Ga), Tiara Ringgold (Easton, Md), Dmeara Monet Smith (South Carolina) and son, Phillip Emory Smith III (Annapolis, Md.) 4 grandchildren, Paul Jr., Kalece and Kaleel Harrison, and Aidan Butler, Sister- Cheryl (Labonita) Smith (Hamden, Ct), One niece- Delmitria (Antoine) Washington Gary, two aunts Shirley Johnson (Cambridge, Md), Cynthia Favors (Meriden,Ct), and special cousin Norma Miller (Cambridge, Md). Special friends Kandi Airey and Jason (DJ) Cruz and his sister/cousin Joy Bohannan. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his fianc?, Lynell (Lynn) Showell, their dog, Mufasa and other relatives and friends.
DJ Tuff is predeceased by his sister Adrienne Smith, uncle Kennard Smith Sr. and cousin Velda Smith.
We would also like to acknowledge his mentors, DJ Michael Bryan (Cambridge, Md) and the late DJ Robbie Austin (Meriden, Ct).
A celebration of life will be held on Friday April 19,2024 at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804 at 10:00. A public visitation will be held one hour prior.
