Phillip Rollin Caldwell of Carrollton, TX, died peacefully on August 13, 2024.
Phil was born on April 9, 1941, in Coleman, TX. Phil graduated from Breckenridge High School, Breckenridge, TX, Class of 1959. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at Southern Methodist University in 1963.
Phil spent his career as an Analyst and Consultant at Control Data Corporation. Notably, Phil served on a team that supported the collection and storage of telemetry data from NASA's Skylab mission in the early 1970s.
Phil was a man of deep, abiding faith. He was a long-time member of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church and, later, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. In both congregations, Phil built close relationships and offered his God-given gifts of music by singing in the church choirs.
Phil accumulated an impressive collection of family genealogy, compiling information and stories of over 5,000 people. In the compiling and telling of these stories, he honored the heritage of his family, and he celebrated the connectedness of people from different times and places.
Phil loved to bake, and he curated an extensive collection of family recipes.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Rollin and Eloise Reed Caldwell; his sister, Clela Caldwell James; and his wife, Mary Ruth Edwards Caldwell.
Phil is survived by his nephew, Andy James of Dallas, TX, and a host of friends and loved ones.
A memorial service to celebrate Phil's life will be held at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church (9800 Preston Rd, Dallas, TX) on Saturday, September 7, at 10:00 AM. The family invites donations in Phil's memory to Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Music Program.
