Philip F. Roan died on June 7, 2022. He was born in Ft. Madison, Iowa in 1930. He served in the Korean War after graduating from the University of Denver and married his wife Betty (Holder) in 1956. In 1958, he was named Westminster, Colorado's first City Manager. In 1965 he graduated from the University of Denver's law school and became one of the first two Public Defenders in Colorado. After decades in private practice, Governor Lamm appointed him to the Adams County District Court in 1980 and he served there for 18 years, including a decade as the Chief Judge of the 17th Judicial District. He read poetry, went fishing, and played golf whenever he could. Judge Roan is survived by his wife and three children: Phil, Ann, and Matt; and four grandchildren: Molly and Patrick (Aber), and Kati and Will (Roan). He believed in fairness, civic virtue, and his family. All three are infinitely poorer for his leaving.
