Philip Maurice Smith, 75, originally of Hop Bottom, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at The Blake at Woodcreek Farms in Elgin, South Carolina. Born on December 22, 1946, he was a son of the late Maurice Urban Smith and Florence Titus Smith.
Philip was the loving husband to Carol Hoadley Smith for 55 years. Family was everything to Philip, he took a great amount of pride in being PopPop to his two grandchildren. Philip was a very laid-back, selfless, and easy going soul. All who knew Phil could not help but to love him. He touched and blessed the lives of those who were fortunate enough to cross his path. His attention to detail and skilled green thumb led to his love for yard work. He was a talented dancer and an avid car enthusiast. He will be fondly remembered by family for his love of Christmas and going the extra mile to make the holiday season truly magical. He was the owner of "Mr. Philip's Salon" in Scranton, Pennsylvania from 1968 until 2002. Once he moved on from his own salon, he began working for salons in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he earned his well-known reputation and developed a cherished clientele including celebrities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jason Smith (Robin); grandchildren, Shelby and Jack; brother-in-law, David Hoadley (Mona); sister-in-law, Diane Norton (Steve); as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Dorothy, Kenneth, and James.
