Peter Sikora, Sr. of Bridgeport, CT, was born on September 26, 1938, in Potocani, Yugoslavia, to Katarina and Stefan Sikora, and passed away on July 14, 2022. He and his two siblings, Mihailo and Ana, were orphaned at a young age.
At around age 21, he took a train to a border city, and crossed into Italy as a refugee, where he met his wife, Lilian Sikora (putting an end to his plans to become a priest!). They were married in Rome on February 14, 1961, and immigrated to the USA shortly afterwards.
Peter and Lilian both worked in the American Thread Company, and had their first child, Peter Sikora, Jr. They also became members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, a life-long faith that would provide comfort, strength, and courage during their marriage.
The family moved to New York City, where Peter worked as a supervisor at Eagle Electric, often working long shifts, trading off duties to care for their son with his wife. Their second son, Steven Sikora, was born and Peter and Lilian worked together as a team to raise their family and start their own business in real estate ownership and remodeling. There are many stories of their incredible partnership in working around the clock as they stayed side-by-side building their business.
Peter was a respected Elder in his local church, with many remembering his willingness to always lend a helping hand. No one was turned away when they needed help, often forming life-long, multi-generational friendships, and leading by example to his family and friends of what the measure of a true, godly man was.
Peter had many health challenges, and received a heart transplant as the result of a childhood fever. Many times, he and his family were told he would not survive another hospital stay, another illness, another surgery, but God had a purpose and a legacy that he built in Peter, blessing him with almost 84 years of life.
Known for his quick smile and love of a good joke, Peter truly enjoyed people. He taught himself 7 languages, and could most often be found smiling and working alongside his family, traveling, and playing with his grandchildren.
The most precious thing in his life (outside of his faith), was his relationship with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lilian Sikora, sister, Ana Sikora, sons, Peter and Steven Sikora, daughter-in-law, Ashley Sikora, and grandchildren, Grace, James, and Rebecca Sikora.
