Peter Maddin Power, 89, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend rested his eyes for the final time on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He was born on March 10, 1931 to Warrena Maddin Power and Peter John Power in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Peter, also fondly known as Pit, PP and Big Drum Papa, received his Bachelor of Science Degree from King's College in Halifax. He later attended Nova Scotia Technical College and earned an Engineering Degree in Metallurgy. Peter worked in the steel industry in Canada for several years before moving to Beaumont. He was employed at Georgetown Steel, North Star Steel and Gerdau Ameristeel for 34 years until his retirement in 2004 at age 73. He remained as a Consultant until 2020.
Peter was a natural athlete who played hockey, rugby, tennis, chess, and ping pong. Peter served as the Captain of the Hockey and Rugby Teams in college. In order to spend more time with his children in later years, he began fencing at age 54 and continued until the COVID pandemic.
Peter's love of Celtic music was demonstrated through his musical talent on the drum, whistle and bass guitar.
Peter's legacy lives on in his wife of 60 years, Hazel Power, of Beaumont and his beloved and cherished family; Daughter, Katherine Wilhelm and her husband, Tim, of Kyle; Son, Sean Power and his wife, Jami, of Maui; Daughter, Shena Power of Round Rock; Son, Conor Power and his wife, Elizabeth, of Sydney Australia and Grandchildren, Christopher Wilhelm, Shane Bradshaw, Alana Fay Power, Margaret Power, Liam Power and Daniel Power.
Due to COVID, a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Ave., Beaumont. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Peter delivered Meals on Wheels until his time of death. Donations in memory of Peter Power are encouraged to Beaumont Nutritional Services, "Meals on Wheels," 4590 Concord Road, Beaumont, TX 77703.
